He is only just 2 1/2
Our "little" monster #1, also known as "Caleb", has been growing like stray grass. What else do kids do these days besides the fact? They grow too fast. Way too fast.
I never really cared about Caleb's place on his doctor's chart. I guess it is because I never had a problem with him growing. He was born a big baby, and he has kept that reputation. Not until recently, after I received a few "wow" comments, that I began to see, just how truly big he is becoming.
Not that it's a bad thing. It's just, well, embarrassing at times.
And I realized, not all "wow's" are good "wow's".
Not only he towers over most of his little friends his age, he also is a solid mass. Dense. Heavy. I feel like I have to follow one of those "When you lift up heavy items, you should..." guidelines when I want to pick him up. In addition,When we take him out to the local parks, he looks like an average 4-year-old. He weighs like an average 4-year-old. His "bigness" reveal in his hands, his shoe size. Only he is 2 1/2 years old.
My favorite is when I take him the stores, strangers come up and try to strike up a conversation with him, as if he's been talking for years.
"Hi, buddy! How old are you?"
-Silent.
"Hi, what's your name?"
-Silent.
"Is this your sister?" (pointing at Abby) "What's her name?"
-Silent.
It is during those moments, I have the urge to deliver a thorough explanation, that he has just started speaking in complete sentences recently, and that I still have a hard time understanding him at times, and that he is really just 2 1/2.
But I always keep those thoughts to myself. Of course, sometimes I get the "What is wrong with your almost-school-aged child that he does not respond?" look. Really, you do not have to say much to reveal much. I can read all those lovely facial expressions.
The worse is when his diaper peeps out of his pants. Then I get the "What kind of mother are you that your 4-year-old son still wears a diaper?" look.
I am so tempted to have him wear a sign that says, "Only 2 1/2!" at his chest.
Do they sell those anywhere?

Not to make it seem like I always know what you mean, but I do know how you feel in this area. I often have a lot of the same moments/situations with Tanner. He's always been taller than friends his same age or even the older ones. Hang in there, and just remember, not all kids are in the "average" range...don't people know that?!?!
I too lived through that and still do. Even though my recently turned 9 and is in the 3rd grade he has been and probably always will be guessed at being 2 years older than he really is.
Hang in there!
