Something else for a change

Lately, I felt I have been a photo junkie. In short, I have been photographing as if my camera was going be taken away from me tomorrow. My kids, my flowers, my rings, even the chairs in my dining room have become the subjects under the lenses.

I even discovered a few blogs where I could participate in their weekly photo challenges.

But no, I have not forgotten the primary purpose of this blog--was to report, update our family life here away from home..

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ever since Mom stepped in to our place a week ago, I have not picked up so much as a spatula. Mom has been cooking. And cooking. And cooking. It was a once-a-year treat for me, I have decided I might as well enjoyed every second of it while it lasted.

This morning, I actually decided to step out of this comfort zone.

I did this for my son. It's one of his favorite foods.

Chipas.

Going International-

One of the best things about living in the suburbs is that when it comes to food (my favorite substance,) one can enjoy a variety of choices. In other words, one can go international without actually leaving the burbs. Because my best friend is Egyptian, I had the privilege to taste test Dolmas when I was in college. It was love at first taste.

For lunch today, Benny, the two munchkins and I went to Whole Foods market and got some Dolmas, pita bread along with some hummus. I guess we felt for Mediterranean. Walking into the market, which was dominated by mostly Mediterranean people, it was quite strange as I took a look at our group: Chinese, Ukrainian, along with two little Ukrainese (Ukrainian + Chinese.) But the Dolmas were delicious, and it was worth the trip.

Dolmas, which are stuffed grape leaves

On the other hand, I guess our Ukrainese-Family's-day-out-at-a-Mediterranean-market experience was not as bad as when my best friend and her husband, who are Egyptian and an all-American white boy, wanting to go Chinese food shopping. Walking into a market full of people who are not only obnoxiously loud, but English is not even spoken on the premise (of the store.) Then, when the butcher hears they want to buy some ground pork to make Lion's Heads(a very traditional Chinese dish) for dinner...you can only imagine all the Asian eyes on these two poor souls. On top of everything else, the Egyptian girl would be holding a cup of boba.

Going international is great.

About me

I am a wife to a loving, thoughtful husband, a mother of two little angels. Because of my husband's job, we have relocated from New Jersey to Los Angeles three years ago. I miss everything back East..NYC, Gray's Papaya, the subway..but know that LA is where God wants us to be right now. His grace is sufficient; I can't live through a day without depending on Him. My love affair with photography began when I was sixteen years old, when I saw a photograph taken by my cousin at South Seaport in NYC--it was a light switch turned on somewhere inside me. When I came home, I dove into photography. Since then, I've always had a burning desire to pursue photography. It was unfortunately cut short due to choosing another field of study during my college years..not until I became a stay-at-home mom and a God-given opportunity early this year, I was able to finally reunite with this passion..and the rest is history.
