iHeartFaces Constructive Feedback Friday

I am new to the photography world. I have been using my daughter and son as the main subjects under my lenses. I also have been playing around with Photoshop Elements 7. There are just too many things I want to learn in such a short period of time, I become frustrated at times.

Recently, I have been playing around with this whole "texture" thing.

And through

..there was a wonderful tutorial on it. Click here if you are interested.

Here is the original:

I tried adding a texture, adjusting the colors.
However, I still feel there is something that needed to be fixed in this photo:

It's never too early to start brushing your teeth

This was when my 10-month-old daughter tried to brush her teeth like her older brother

Focal length: 50mm
Apature: f/2.2
Exposure: 1/15
ISO speed:200

I also have been using the manual mode, which was another challenge. I like the result, but I feel like the overall color and the texture opacity were somewhat off. Also, I'm not too excited about the level adjusted, and saturations. How can I make it look better?

Way to go on tackling textures! I discovered them very recently and they're a lot of fun. I like the texture in this photo, but I think it does lend a little to much yellow. You can adjust the hue of textures. This would give the skin more of a natural tone. To get the point across of the toothbrush, it would be neat have a little bit more in the picture (ex. at least part of big brother's face with toothbrush) Of course, I own the 50mm and realize how hard it is to fit everything into the frame especially if you're dealing with tight quarters like a bathroom. I think you captured a very sweet moment!

What a great moment! I understand not being able to back up with the 50mm, too. That's why I got a 35mm, LOL.

Textures are fun, aren't they :). I like the subtle texture here, but like Drew I feel it added a lot of yellow and a ton of contrast. The poor top of her head and arm are now nearly blown. Close but not quite. Can you try changing the opacity of the texture layer? That would probably back it down enough to be perfect.

What a cute moment you captured :). I hope this helps!

I agree with the yellow problem mainly...when I first saw the fix it just screamed "YELLOW!" to me. :) This is so easy to fix though (as others have already explained so well.)

It truly is a really cute moment you captured...in a scrapbook you could easily explain what was going on in that moment. From me just looking at it right now though, so many details are missing that I never would have figured out the wonderful story behind the photo.

About me

I am a wife to a loving, thoughtful husband, a mother of two little angels. Because of my husband's job, we have relocated from New Jersey to Los Angeles three years ago. I miss everything back East..NYC, Gray's Papaya, the subway..but know that LA is where God wants us to be right now. His grace is sufficient; I can't live through a day without depending on Him. My love affair with photography began when I was sixteen years old, when I saw a photograph taken by my cousin at South Seaport in NYC--it was a light switch turned on somewhere inside me. When I came home, I dove into photography. Since then, I've always had a burning desire to pursue photography. It was unfortunately cut short due to choosing another field of study during my college years..not until I became a stay-at-home mom and a God-given opportunity early this year, I was able to finally reunite with this passion..and the rest is history.
