A Summer Evening Concert--Brea, California

You know it's summer when there are concerts at different city parks. It's not news that I have a camera attached to my hips at all times. Not just for vacations. Not just for birthdays. Not just for weddings. Not just for celebrations. But for all the above and all the in-between.

I really enjoy shooting people (not in the literal sense), especially when people are in their most natural, naive, relaxed state of mind. I love to capture their emotions, and believe these shots tell so much more story than anything else. I should have majored in photojournalism in college; I chose elementary education instead. Although I never regretted teaching, I now wonder where I would be if I had chosen a different path.

The bottom line is...if you want to practice on your photography skills, this is an example of an excellent place to be. There are so many people, no one is going to care about being photographed. Act natural, most people will think you are from a local newspaper or something.

Go, shoot away!

Afterward, reward yourself by paying a visit to Cold Stone Creamery. Now life is almost perfect.

The Animator's Wife July 16, 2009 at 7:35 PM

These are great. Love the doggy/ girl square off!

And your advise is so true too. I used to be the mom that didn't even remember the camera for vacation birthdays, weddings, etc. And now I feel a bit naked without it. My husband says I have actually become an animator, because we can scroll quickly through my photos and because there are so many, it looks like animation. HA!

The difficult thing is not shooting w/o ceasing, it choosing what shots to delete. *sigh*

About me

I am a wife to a loving, thoughtful husband, a mother of two little angels. Because of my husband's job, we have relocated from New Jersey to Los Angeles three years ago. I miss everything back East..NYC, Gray's Papaya, the subway..but know that LA is where God wants us to be right now. His grace is sufficient; I can't live through a day without depending on Him. My love affair with photography began when I was sixteen years old, when I saw a photograph taken by my cousin at South Seaport in NYC--it was a light switch turned on somewhere inside me. When I came home, I dove into photography. Since then, I've always had a burning desire to pursue photography. It was unfortunately cut short due to choosing another field of study during my college years..not until I became a stay-at-home mom and a God-given opportunity early this year, I was able to finally reunite with this passion..and the rest is history.
